If my sister and her boyfriend are ever going to have another offspring, it'd better not be a September to November birthday, I'm just saying.

::dead from after work Sachertorte decorated with Smarties for the niece's birthday, and choreography practice while it was in baking/cooling::

Still on the November to-do list: Cakes for my father (who also wants a Schwarzwälderkirschtorte. ::sigh::) and for M. and B. at work.


My mother says I'm being stupid, but sometimes I wonder if the reason why I'm feeling so out of place in this family is that I'm the only one born not in autumn...

I'll take a Sachertorte, please. ;)

Or maybe the recipe would suffice. Although if it's one of those recipes where you have to separate the egg whites... Those are a pain.

It's one of those, sorry. I'll go through my cookbooks at work, maybe I'll find one that doesn't require batting the whites separately, but I'm afraid most do...

Oh, well... even if it does, I'll take the recipe if you don't mind sharing. I might have the energy to try it some day. Generally, I find separating the whites to be a big pain, but I guess it won't kill me to try again.

I left it at my parents' apartment, I'll post it later this week, if you don't mind; or maybe the one from the Plachuttta cookbook, their recipes are usually really good.

It's really easy with a little practice; just crack the egg open, break it apart (over the bowl you're going to bat the whites in), let the white run into the bowl and let the yolk slide from one half into the other a few times.

I guess it might also work if you used whole eggs and added baking powder...

That's fine. I can wait a few days. If I do attempt it, I'll probably wait until around Christmas anyway, when I always do a lot of baking. I've separated egg whites before... I just find that it's sort of a pain, and I beat them by hand (which was a big mistake -- MUST. USE. MIXER. next time). But I'm willing to give it a try again.
