I've got a sore throat, my nose is running & I generally just want to crawl into bed again, pretty please.

Instead, eight hours of work, and belly-dancing class that I really can't skip. I'll be home at 10-ish.

Ow, dancing while sick is not fun! If I could teleport over and go to the class in your place, I would...

Thanks! :)

The problem is that I've stupidly agreed to participate in our Christmas show and I've a hard enough time keeping up with the new choreography as it is, so I really don't dare miss a lesson, or I'll be hopelessly behind...

Belly dancing in a Christmas show? That's, er, interesting...

No Christian anything will be (ab)used, incorporated or even referred to except in the title of the show, I promise. ;) It's not as if we're doing a belly dancing Nativity Play...

Then what is the point of doing it at Christmas? That ancient agnostic fable about the date being picked because of some pagan sun festival that nobody ever could properly locate is a fable, take it from me. Real scholars have known it since 1953, when Professor Shemarjahu Talmon of the University of Jerusalem (a Jew with no interest in Christian matters) made a fundamental discovery - http://fpb.livejournal.com/270073.html has my summary of it. This is real scholarship, based on genuine texts and reaching a sensational yet assured result; but the media have refused to report it for 55 years. I wonder why?

Haven't had time to read your entry yet, but — because the other vaguely-towards-the-end-of-the-semester-or-at-least-with-enough-time-to-learn-a-choreography-date is a completely random May/June date? Which personally I would be just as happy to do, even happier, because it'd be less stressful for me, but apparently Christmas seems a bit more of an official occasion to get people to buy tickets... And actually the Christmas show is new, before last year our teacher usually did a big 'Oriental Spring' show with her dance group and her pupils, but since apart from having a job she's been spending a lot of time in a dance studio in Berlin over the last year and half, that has become too time-consuming and too much work for her.

Sorry, but I get very annoyed about the colonization of our sacred days by things that have nothing to do with it, and with an agenda, as far as I am concerned, to deny the Christian background of our culture and to reduce them to a motiveless drive to purchase things. I realize that you had nothing to do with the setting of this, but there are 364 days in the year, and 365 in leap years, in which people can celebrate things other than the birth of Jesus Christ, and I would suggest that people made use of them.

It's on Nov. 29th, if that helps. Last year it was Dec. 8th...

That's better - but in that case, why connect it to Christmas at all? I am not being sarcastic, I really don't understand. It is actually closer to the feast of Christ the King - mind you, that would be even less welcome to a thoroughgoing secularist...

Anyway, whatever. Good luck with the dance.

Oh, wow. Good luck! Performing is scary, but it's something I'm starting to wish I had the chance to try...

Hope the lesson went well, and you're feeling better today.

It's nothing big, just a friends & family thing, so (hopefully) not that scary... I'm not even sure I'll do the new choreography, because I'm still completely floundering, but the ones from last semester and from the summer course I feel pretty secure with by now.

Ugh, poor you! *hugs and makes some virtual soup*

Aw, thanks. :) Actually today went surprisingly well; throat is still sore, but thankfully I'm not feeling too bad otherwise...

Aw, &%$£@!! I feel for you. I hope you survive the day and get some damn rest afterwards.

Thanks - it was actually a lot better than I expected this morning... Up at 6 tomorrow, though. *sigh*
