I don't even know why I'm posting this since it doesn't make sense unless you speak German, and probably not even then unless you're familiar with the song and the musical, but I'm completely in love with the idea. Russian vidder vids Doctor Who to a song from the Austrian/German musical Tanz der Vampire. It's so utterly unexpected, and works so utterly perfectly. The Time Lords and eternity.

She has a version with English subtitles here; they're apparently taken from the US version of the musical, but they are a loose translation at best, and have nowhere near the same impact as the German lyrics.

Oh my goodness this is glorious! I shall have to go look up the German lyrics, so I get the full impact, but even with just subtitles it's incredible! So, so perfect.

Not a hundred percent literal, but as close as possible while still sounding English.

[Time Lord council]
Eternity is boredom in the long run

[Dalek fleet]
a dreary cycle

[the seer and her drawing]
no beginning, no end.

[Gallifrey and Daleks]
The same things repeating themselves all over forever.

[Rassilon]
No exultation, no horror

[Dalek fleet]
just bleak, meaningless eternity.

[Master hitting the barrel, Doctor running towards the Tardis]
Not even torture, just forever this

[Master hitting the barrel]
shitty eternity.

[the seer, Rassilon and the diamond]
Away with the stone

[Master]
that seals the abyss of terror!

[Time Lord council]
Away from this horror

[Master]
into the glittering

[Earth]
world!

[Rassilon, homeless man tapping, Doctor, Martha tapping]
Soon our poison will paralyse

[diamond]
the brains of the human race.

[Rasilon]
Soon we'll be lords of this world.

[Time Lords, Gallifrey]
The last line is a bit difficult to translate word for word, it essentially means, 'We'll plunge them into the depth', but there's also the aspect of 'overthrow'. Throwing someone down literally as well as metaphorically, in every sense.

The word that is repeated from where Rassilon raises his arms until the end is 'hinab', which means 'down, downwards'.

Actually, you reminded me that one of my alltime favourite Doctor/Master vids is Vom Selben Stern. I think you might like it. :)

Oh, this is a perfect song choice, the chorus absolutely kills me. Thanks for the rec!
